Abstract
The purpose of this study is to inquire into how the principal constituents of Korea`s long-term care services for elders, including user, practicians, facility and family members and volunteers, perceive, practice and experience the service. Qualitative case study was the research method chosen to fulfill the purpose of this study because it was the most adequate approach to divulge the manifestation of caring that our society has built based on inclusive insights through current practices of these services. Based on the finding, we are able to draw out the following arguments£ºthe degree of elderly care service actually provided by our society only pivots on the functional aspect of care for the elders and completely lacks competence to consider their feelings. The goals of elderly care merely remain as a way to mitigate family financial burden and supplement weakened physical and mental faculties of the elders. Dignified and humane caring for the elders seems to be a remote concept for us. In order to make alleviations in the field of elderly care, we must expand allocation of social resources and manpower, enhance the poor work environment for the service providers, and also, reduce even further the financial burdens of family members. The concept of elderly care must extend from a mere functional caring to emotional caring where they are offered the respect and comfort they deserve.
